Randers

Randers – the world at your doorstep

One of the most striking aspects of Randers for the tourist is the Randers Tropical Zoo, or Rain Forest. Located in the centre of Randers and close to the river Gudenåen, it has three geodesic domes, each one featuring a different rain forest: South America, Asia and Africa. As a visitor, you can move between the domes and so can the animals (over 175 species). The zoo also features a “Snake Garden”, and aquarium and a sizable playground for children. Various activities such as feeding and weighing of animals are open to participation by the public, and features such as “tree-top walks” also help to make the experience unique.

Randers also has an art museum and a museum of cultural history, and an innovative center, Underværket, that combines business, culture and a multitude of ethnicities. The Kejsergaarden is a living museum of old trade and crafts, with active workshops during opening hours. And for those who like to get back to baroque, Clausholm Castle just to the south-east of Randers has the history and the setting to satisfy.
