Næstved – a cultural center
Næstved in Southern Zealand has opted for strong cultural activity. The venues range from young and trendy to more established, depending on the type of artists and shows. The most prestigious venue is in the old military barracks, recently converted into the Grønnegades Kaserne Kulturcenter. Top Danish and international artists often perform here. For more informal events with possible cheaper tickets, other theaters including the "Egns Teater" attract talented artists, as does the “Students’ House” (Studenternes Hus).
On the other hand, Næstved also offers a range of churches and of local museums and art museums. The Kähler Museum with Kähler ceramics is one example, as is "Stenboderne" with historical relics of pottery and armory. In the vicinity of the town, you’ll also find “Bon Bon-land” (an “alternative” sweets and candy theme park, a firm favorite with children). Boat trips are available along the canal, passing by the picturesque castle of Gavnø, and going as far as Karrebæksminde, where the fishermen hold boat races.
