Frederiksberg

Frederiksberg – not just “another part of Copenhagen”

If you can spend an entire vacation in Copenhagen itself, you can do the same by travelling a few kilometers to Frederiksberg. On the map, it looks like a suburb of Denmark’s capital city. In reality, it’s proudly independent and offers an abundance of things to do and see.

Frederiksberg has its “classical” landmarks, such as the Frederiksberg Palace, Town Hall and Park. The baroque palace is next door to the Copenhagen Zoo, also part of Frederiksberg, with its new Elephant House, as well as the towering Frederiksberg Church. On a more contemporary note, the Museum of Modern Glass Art is housed in three underground 140-year-old water cisterns for unique effects of space and lighting, while the Museum of Light Theatre traces the history over two hundred years of light entertainment and show business, another important part of Frederiksberg’s history.

Frederiksberg is also the place to go to buy Royal Copenhagen Porcelain and silverware from world-renowned silversmiths Georg Jensen. Art and design pervades to such an extent that even the Frederiksberg Swimming Baths are decorated with large mosaics created by Vilhelm Lundstrøm. On the other hand, they are also equipped with a 110 meter indoor water chute, Turkish baths, a solarium, aroma steam baths and a salt water pool.
